Reading

Reading with and to your child every day will have a massive impact on their learning across the curriculum. As a whole school we are encouraging a love of reading and have purchased many new and exciting books to share and enjoy together. These include the lovely books we have in our class 'Story Box'. In class, we encourage the children to select their own books from this to enjoy with you at home in addition to their Read Write Inc book. Please record your daily reading in the yellow reading records and feel free to include books you read from home as well. Quite often your child will want to read the same book again and again, which we encourage. This develops the children's fluency reading and is something we do often with our Read Write Inc books. If the same book comes home more than once or your child's book hasn't been changed, this is an opportunity to re-read.

Home learning

Home learning books are a great way to record any learning you have done at home. A home learning grid, linked to our topic, is a termly plan of activities laid out on a grid. These can be completed by parents/carers and children together. There is additional space for other learning opportunities you may have outside of school e.g. a sketching trip to the local woods or a diary of your holiday. Please find the latest grid below to link to our Space topic.

We also have a display in the classroom for the children’s home learning which we look forward to filling with lots of topic-related projects the children share from home. The awesome things you do at home really inspire the other children so thank you. :o)

Spellings

The children are given their new spellings on a Monday. We practise writing these every morning in school and link these to our books and learning in Read Write Inc lessons so the children feel confident and ready for a quiz on Friday.
